WALTHAM, MA – The College of Saint Rose is off to the best start ever in the history of a program that has won back-to-back Northeast-10 Conference Championships and has earned six NCAA Tournament berths within the past seven seasons. The Golden Knights (11-0-0/8-0-0 NE-10), ranked #3 for the fourth consecutive week according to the latest
NSCAA/Adidas Division II Poll, got to that point by virtue of today's 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Bentley University.
The Golden Knights have now shutout each of their last five opponents and have not been scored upon in their most recent 454 minutes of soccer.
Today it was a strike from sophomore forward
Kimberly Morton that put Saint Rose in uncharted waters. Morton collected a feed in the box from senior back
Alex Sobchak and drove a shot from 10-yards out that deflected off the left post on its way into the back of the net at the 40:51 mark.
Morton's goal afforded justice to a contest that Saint Rose dominated much more than the final score would indicate. The Golden Knights outshot the host Falcons (4-5-1/2-5-1 NE-10) by a staggering 17-2 margin, including 11-0 in the first half, and created seven corner kick opportunities without yielding any. Furthermore, Saint Rose sophomore keeper
Susan Cowan needed to make only one save, while her counterpart in Bentley junior Kara Smith had to turn aside six shots on target to keep the Falcons within striking distance.
Up next, both teams return to conference action Tuesday. The Golden Knights have a 4:15 pm home date with Assumption, while the Falcons are scheduled to visit UMass Lowell at 7:00 pm.
