GOLDEN KNIGHTS PUT AWAY MILLERSVILLE FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON

Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Tyler led all players with a season-high 11 kills to go with a .400 hitting percentage
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team had four players record at least seven kills in a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16) non-conference triumph over Millersville University today at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The Golden Knights (13-12), who took an identical 3-1 victory over the Marauders (12-22) back on September 5, also improved to 10-4 in non-league contests this year.

Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Tyler led all players with a season-high 11 kills for Saint Rose. Tyler furthermore hit .400 with three errors in 20 attempts and registered six total blocks. Junior middle hitter Kelly Ryan added eight kills and seven blocks, while junior outside hitter Rachel Baxter and sophomore outside hitter Sarah Kahrs finished with seven kills apiece.

Additionally, sophomore setter Theresa Staulo passed out 41 assists to go with two digs and a pair of aces, while senior libero Mary German picked up a match-high 23 digs.

Millersville, which has dropped nine of its last 11 outings, received eight kills, four digs and three blocks from senior middle hitter Emily Bires. Senior setter Meredith Sinback contributed 24 assists, nine digs, five blocks and three kills as well.

The Golden Knights raced out to a 7-0 advantage in the first set and never relinquished their lead. Kahrs, Baxter and Ryan combined for 11 of the squad's 13 kills in the set. Saint Rose also forced eight attack errors by the Marauders to clinch the set 25-20.

Set two saw Millersville score six of the first seven points to jump out to a 6-1 lead. The Golden Knights clawed back to take a brief 16-15 edge on the strength of a kill by freshman outside hitter Kayleigh Quinn. However, Saint Rose was plagued by a service error, an ace and four attack errors that proved to be the difference in a 25-22 setback.

The Golden Knights took control early in the third set and used an 8-3 run to transform a 13-10 lead into a comfortable 21-13 margin. Tyler was able to close things out by converting a pass from Staulo for a 25-21 decision.

After falling behind 4-2 in the fourth set, Saint Rose ran off eight straight points to seize a 10-4 advantage it never surrendered. Tyler was virtually unstoppable behind a .750 hitting percentage, which resulted in six kills in eight attempts without an error in a 25-16 win.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to conclude their 2009 road slate next weekend. Saint Rose heads to Southern New Hampshire University for a 7:00 pm league match Friday before heading to Franklin Pierce University for a 1:00 pm NE-10 date Saturday afternoon in Rindge, NH.
