GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TO DEFENDING NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPION SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Sophomore Patrik Ohlsson made three saves during today's setback to defending NE-10 champion Southern New Hampshire.
ALBANY – Defending Northeast-10 Conference champion Southern New Hampshire broke open a 0-0 deadlock by scoring three times within a five minute stretch throughout the final ten minutes of the first half en route to a 4-1 victory against The College of Saint Rose this afternoon. The Penmen (12-1-2/9-0-2 NE-10), ranked #5 in the most recent NSCAA/Adidas Division II Poll, ran their unbeaten stretch to 13 matches in the process.

Junior forward Justin Little put the Golden Knights (2-12-1/1-9-1 NE-10) on the scoreboard by converting a penalty kick with 19 seconds left until intermission after freshman midfielder Sean Foley was dragged down in the box.

Junior midfielder Michael Adam scored twice, including the game-winner, for Southern New Hampshire. Senior midfielder Kevin Woods had a goal and two assists, while junior forward Danny Hernandez  struck once and helped set up another to aid the Penmen charge.

Woods made it 1-0 in the 35th minute by finishing a through ball from Hernandez. Woods returned the favor in the 48th minute when he slid a ball up the middle to Hernandez who snuck a low shot inside the left post for what amounted to the game's final strike.

Adam boosted the advantage to 2-0 less than a minute following the game's first marker when Woods found him on the left flank off a set piece. Adam subsequently rifled his shot into the lower right corner. Four minutes later, Adam made a nifty run down the right channel, cut back inside, and lofted a left-footed shot from 20-yards out that wrapped inside the top right corner.

In goal, sophomore keeper Patrik Ohlsson recorded three saves for Saint Rose. Meanwhile, sophomore Joey Kapinos was called upon to make one save en route to his second career shutout in a Southern New Hampshire uniform.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose has a week off before playing its final road match of the year. The Golden Knights travel to UMass Lowell next Saturday for a 1:00 pm conference date. Meanwhile, the Penmen return to the pitch Tuesday for a 7:00 pm home match against league rival Bentley.
