ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of its 2009-10 slate on a high note Sunday afternoon, delivering an 8-1 Northeast-10 Conference triumph over visiting Franklin Pierce University. It marked the first win of the year for the Golden Knights (1-6/1-5 NE-10), who swept all three doubles matches and had four players register two wins on the afternoon.

Junior Missy Leighton, sophomores Erin Reeg and Stephanie Belz, and freshman Jennifer Crego all came away with victories in both doubles in singles action for Saint Rose.

Leighton and Reeg teamed up to take an 8-1 decision over sophomore Drew Alexander and senior Bianca LaPointe. Leighton then upended junior Lauren Smilovich 7-5, 6-2 at #2 singles. Meanwhile, Reeg picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win from the fifth singles spot over senior Monica Lavertu.

Also for the Golden Knights, Crego evened her league record (3-3) in singles action following a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over sophomore Kaitlin Krolikowski. She was also part of an 8-1 win in #2 doubles play along with junior Kimberly Schacher. The duo now owns a 3-1 overall mark.

Finally, Belz earned her first wins of the season in singles and doubles action. She handed junior Misty Start a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 setback in sixth singles and was part of an 8-3 doubles victory along with classmate Valeria Bianchi.

Saint Rose will spend the winter preparing for its spring opener. The Golden Knights are scheduled to open on Saturday, March 27 when they host Assumption College in a 1:00 pm league affair.
