SAINT ROSE FALLS BY ONE AT NEW HAVEN

Junior forward Malcolm Williams
WEST HAVEN, CT – Three days after chalking up a one point victory against American International, The College of Saint Rose was on the short end of a similar ledger with a 62-61 defeat at Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven tonight. The game was well played as the two teams combined to shoot 48.1 percent from the floor, while committing a mere 10 turnovers apiece.

Saint Rose had a pair of chances to win it in the last 10 seconds, but a miscue on the offensive end and an inability to get a final look helped determine the outcome. Two minutes earlier, senior guard Josh Pelletier had both a runner in the paint and a 3-pointer fall in and out to initially foreshadow the Golden Knights fate.

Junior forward Malcolm Williams scored a career-high 20 points, on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor, to lead Saint Rose. Freshman guard Shea Bromirski scored all 12 of his points after halftime, while junior guard Jermaine Clark finished with eight points and five assists. Also, senior center Evan Lane had a pair of blocks to go with six points to move into third place ahead of Phil Sellers (2000-03) on the College's all-time list with 99 career rejections.

The game was tight throughout although the Golden Knights (5-8/3-5 NE-10) were in a pretty comfortable position after Bromirski drained a 3-pointer that made it 61-57 Saint Rose with 3:26 remaining.

However, the Chargers (6-7/5-5 NE-10) scored five answered points the rest of the way to snap a two-game skid. Junior guard Darryl Greene completed a three point play to make it a 61-60 ballgame with 2:15 remaining. The two teams then came up empty on their next trips up the floor, before New Haven junior forward Kelvin Jackson finished in the paint with 28 seconds left to account for the final margin.

Greene had 16 points to pace New Haven. Junior forward Cassius Chaney finished with 12 points and seven boards, while Jackson added 10 points.

Saint Rose will play the third leg of its current four-game, eight day stretch with a 7:30 pm home contest Thursday against UMass Lowell. It will be “Saint Rose Employee Night” with all Saint Rose employees admitted free. Meanwhile, New Haven will host Post University in a non-league game Thursday at 7:00 pm.
