SAINT ROSE FALLS 2-0 AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Freshman keeper Patrik Ohlsson
SPRINGFIELD – Host American International made the first shot of the contest hold up en route to a 2-0 victory against The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action this afternoon. Otherwise, it was an evenly played affair with the Golden Knights (1-8-1/0-6-1 NE-10) owning a 14-12 advantage in shots and the corner kicks standing even at seven apiece.

Forward Bernard Kessie, a graduate student, put the Yellow Jackets (3-6-2/1-3-2 NE-10) up 1-0 just 24 seconds after the opening kickoff. Sophomore forward Keon Bobb then added an insurance marker in the 82nd minute. Freshman keeper Patrik Ohlsson recorded six saves for Saint Rose, while rookie Joseph Ferrentino came up with seven stops for American International.

The Golden Knights had a few opportunities in the latter stages. Senior forward Joe Hunt nearly cut the deficit in half when he drove a shot off the post in the 86th minute. Hunt got off another strike in the 89th minute, but Ferrentino proved to be up to the task.

Both teams return to action with 1:00 pm league matches Saturday. The Golden Knights will host Saint Anselm, while the Yellow Jackets will visit New Haven.
