NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The College of Saint Rose, ranked #18 in the latest
NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division II Poll, suffered a 5-0 loss to a Merrimack squad that it had defeated in both the Northeast-10 Conference and NCAA Tournaments last season. It marked the worst loss for the Golden Knights (5-3-1/3-2-1 NE-10) since they fell by the same score at then fourth ranked Franklin Pierce in the 2004 NE-10 playoffs.
Merrimack (5-2-2/3-2-1 NE-10) outshot Saint Rose by only a 14-12 margin and generated two fewer corner kicks, but the Warriors struck in the sixth minute and added another prior to halftime before tacking on three more strikes throughout the second stanza.
Junior forward Gabriella Gamprey tallied her team-leading eighth and ninth goals of the year, including what turned out to be the game-winner at the 5:44 mark, while freshman forward Kara Hennigan, and sophomore midfielders Jesse DeGraan and Lindsey deMont added one each.
Sophomore keeper
Jillian Lyons made four saves in her first career start for the Golden Knights, while senior Shannon Rowan registered seven saves for Merrimack. Saint Rose sophomore midfielder
Amanda Deck recorded two of the team's four shots on goal.
Both teams are scheduled to be back on the pitch with 3:30 pm conference matches Wednesday. Saint Rose will host American International, while Merrimack heads to Colchester, VT for a date at Saint Michael's.
