SAINT ROSE UPSET BID COMES UP SHORT AT #6 C.W. POST

Senior forward Josh Pelletier
BROOKVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss as sixth-ranked C.W. Post handed the Golden Knights a 74-61 setback this evening at the Pratt Recreation Center. It marked the opening game of the C.W. Post Holiday Invitational as the host Pioneers (7-0) managed to keep their unblemished record in tact.

The Golden Knights (3-7) received a career-high 14 points from senior forward Josh Pelletier to go with three boards. Meanwhile, freshman guard Shea Bromirski tossed in 12 points and junior forward Malcolm Williams added eight points and 11 caroms.

C.W. Post placed all five starters in double-figures as senior guards Kevin Spann and Nick Carter finished with 17 points apiece to lead all scorers. Senior guard Jonathan Schmidt wound up with 13 points and seven boards, while senior guard Kenny Burkes and junior forward Lyndon Daniel added 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Pioneers generated a 31-14 advantage with 6:43 left in the first half despite shooting 24.1 percent (9-for-29) from the floor throughout the opening 20 minutes. The Pioneers offset that by converting 18-of-22 attempts from the foul line.

Saint Rose cut into the 17-point margin by closing the period with a 14-4 run to make it a 35-28 affair at the break. Bromirski buried a 3-pointer with 1:33 on the clock and junior guard Jermaine Clark knocked down a jumper with 14 seconds remaining to close out the half.

The Golden Knights opened the second stanza with a layup by Pelletier and another by Bromirski that made it a 35-32 ballgame just 56 seconds in. However, it was as close as Saint Rose would get the rest of the way. C.W. Post embarked on a 15-0 spurt that covered a four-minute span to boost its advantage back to 18, 50-32, with 15:37 left.

The Pioneers connected on 50.0 percent (15-for-30) of their attempts from the floor in the second half and limited the Golden Knights to just 2-of-8 from beyond the arc as C.W. Post never led by less than 12 points over the final 20 minutes.

Saint Rose will close out the 2008 portion of its schedule tomorrow evening when the Golden Knights meet New York Institute of Technology at 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Pioneers will put their undefeated record on the line against Assumption College at 7:00 pm.
