BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The College of Saint Rose men's basketball team remained winless on the road this season (0-4) as host Bloomfield College defeated the Golden Knights 86-73. The Deacons (5-2) put up 48 points in the first half, the most allowed by Saint Rose this season, en route to their fourth consecutive victory.
Junior guard
Jermaine Clark had a homecoming of sorts and led the Golden Knights (3-6) with 20 points. Senior forward
Evan Lane finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while junior forward
Malcolm Williams registered his second “double-double” of the year with 10 points and 12 boards.
Senior guard Omari Knox paced Bloomfield with a game-high 25 points. Meanwhile, sophomore forward Gage Daye tossed in 19 points and junior center Chris Sampson added 14 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Clark buried a jumper just over three minutes into the contest to tie the score at 5-5. However, Knox countered with a 3-pointer at the other end that gave the Deacons the lead for good. The trey ignited a 22-8 jaunt that covered a seven-minute span, making it 25-13 and was capped off by a layup from Sampson with 9:37 to go.
Saint Rose managed to cut its deficit to nine, 30-21, but Bloomfield scored six straight points to end the half and go into the locker room up 15, 48-33. The Deacons wound up shooting 42.6 percent (20-for-47) from the floor throughout the opening 20 minutes, put up 20 more shots than the Golden Knights and tossed in 11 more field goals. Saint Rose was further hampered by 10 turnovers that Bloomfield turned into 13 points.
The Golden Knights stormed out of the locker room with a 21-11 spurt that made it a five-point, 59-54, ballgame with 12:17 on the clock. Lane, Clark and freshman guard
Shea Bromirski were responsible for all but two points during the run that was punctuated by a jumper from Clark.
It was as close as Saint Rose would get the rest of the night as Bloomfield outscored the Golden knights 20-11 over the next 10 minutes to seal the victory.
Saint Rose will have 12 days off before heading to Long Island for the C.W. Post Holiday Classic on Monday and Tuesday, December 28 and 29. The Golden Knights are scheduled to meet the host Pioneers at 5:00 pm in day one action. The Deacons put their winning streak on the line when they travel to Bentley University for a 7:00 pm non-conference contest Friday in Waltham, MA.
