SAINT ROSE VOLLEYBALL DROPS 3-0 DECISION VERSUS MERRIMACK

Freshman middle hitter Chelsea Tyler
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team dropped its second consecutive home match as visiting Merrimack College swept the Golden Knights 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 18-25) in a Northeast-10 Conference match at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium this evening.

Junior libero Mary German paced the Saint Rose defense with 16 digs and also added an ace. Meanwhile, freshman outside hitter Marilyn Glamack finished with six kills and five digs.

The Warriors (17-8/12-1 NE-10) had three players reach double-figures in digs, which made it difficult for the Golden Knights (13-11/6-7 NE-10) to mount an attack. Sophomore libero Alyssa Pickert led both squads with 19 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Molly Cindric and senior middle blocker Ale Kuncaitis added 15 and 13 digs respectively.

Additionally, Cindric registered a match-high 11 kills to go with four blocks and Kuncaitis wound up with nine kills.

Saint Rose raced out to an 8-2 advantage that was punctuated by a block assist from freshman middle hitter Chelsea Tyler and freshman setter Theresa Staulo. The Golden Knights increased their lead to seven, 16-9, which forced a Merrimack timeout.

Following the timeout, the Warriors ran off 11 of the next 16 points to knot the score at 21-21. Sophomore setter Elyse Lorenz sandwiched a kill by senior middle blocker Kristin Applegate around a kill of her own and an ace that allowed Merrimack to take a slim 25-22 victory.

The Warriors left no doubt throughout the final two sets after taking both by scores of 25-12 and 25-18.

Saint Rose returns to action tomorrow when the Golden Knights host league rival Bentley College on “Senior Day”. It also marks the 2008 regular-season finale that is set to begin at 1:00 pm. Merrimack will continue its westward swing tomorrow when the Warriors visit Le Moyne for a 12:00 pm league match.
