ALBANY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback against visiting Stonehill College this afternoon in its Northeast-10 Conference opener. The Skyhawks (1-1/1-1 NE-10) captured their first league win behind five singles victories to spoil the 2008-09 home-opener for the Golden Knights (0-2/0-1 NE-10).
Saint Rose received a pair of wins from sophomore Rebecca Moon. Moon registered a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Stonehill sophomore Lindsey Herchel and teamed up with junior Rachael O'Brien for a 9-7 win at first doubles.
Additionally, sophomore Melissa Leighton and sophomore Stephanie Paine pulled out a hard fought 8-5 win to help the Golden Knights claim two of three doubles matches.
Saint Rose is scheduled to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference match next Friday at Keltin Courts. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm. The Skyhawks will travel to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday for a 3:00 pm conference match in Rindge, NH.
