SAINT ROSE VOLLEYBALL EDGED BY SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE 3-2

Junior Mary German
MANCHESTER, NH – Southern New Hampshire University erased a match point in the fifth set by earning a kill and taking advantage of two attack errors by The College of Saint Rose to upend the Golden Knights 3-2 (25-23, 12-25, 17-25, 25-21, 14-16) in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball match this evening.

The Penmen (5-6/2-1 NE-10) trailed 14-13 in the deciding frame, but senior outside hitter Brianna Doucet came up with a big side out off a feed from junior setter Kim Rowe that made it a 14-14 affair. Southern New Hampshire was then able to seal the victory after the Golden Knights (8-5/3-2 NE-10) committed two consecutive attack errors.

Freshman outside hitter Marilyn Glamack was one of three Saint Rose players to reach double-figures in kills for the match. Glamack wound up with 14 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Rachel Baxter and junior right side hitter Jaclyn Griffin added 10 kills apiece.

Additionally, freshman setter Theresa Staulo passed out 39 assists, while junior libero Mary German helped pace the defensive unit with 10 digs.

Doucet and sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Dluginski led the Penmen with 12 kills each, while senior outside hitter Jamie Rood contributed 10 k ills and seven digs.

The Golden Knights faced a 2-1 deficit heading into the fourth set but got out of the gate fast and never trailed as Griffin, Glamack and Baxter combined for seven of the squad's 11 kills to force a deciding fifth set. However, Saint Rose managed only five kills and committed seven attack errors in 28 attempts which proved to be the difference.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to visit Saint Anselm tomorrow in a 1:00 pm league match in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, Southern New Hampshire will host NE-10 rival Le Moyne tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
