SAINT ROSE VOLLEYBALL TAKES 3-1 VICTORY AT MERCY

DOBBS FERRY, NY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team had four players register at least eight kills that allowed the Golden Knights to come away with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-27, 25-20, 25-18) non-conference victory at Mercy College this evening.

Sophomore middle hitter Kelly Ryan and freshman outside hitter Marilyn Glamack paced the attack with 11 kills apiece for Saint Rose (11-5), which won its third straight outing. Junior right side hitter Jaclyn Griffin added nine kills, while junior outside hitter Alyssa Broccoli finished with a season-high eight kills.

Furthermore, freshman setter Theresa Staulo contributed 34 assists, 12 digs and a pair of blocks, while junior libero Mary German led the defense with 14 digs.

Junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone recorded match-highs of 19 digs and 15 kills for the Mavericks (6-16), who dropped their fifth straight match. Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton  wound up with 10 kills and eight digs, and senior setter Trevene Smith collected 27 assists and 11 digs.

After splitting the first two sets 25-19 and 25-27, the Golden Knights broke an 18-18 tie in the third set behind consecutive kills from Staulo and Glamack that made it 20-18. Griffin added three more kills to give Saint Rose enough cushion for a 25-20 decision.

In the fourth set, the Golden Knights raced out to a 10-4 advantage. Mercy managed to claw it way back even 16-16, but Saint Rose went on a 9-2 scoring spurt the rest of the way for the 25-18 win.

The Golden Knights return to conference action Friday when they host UMass Lowell at 7:00 pm at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Meanwhile, Mercy hits the court again tomorrow night when the Mavericks head to LIU-C.W. Post for a 7:00 pm ECC match.
