SAINT ROSE TAKES CARE OF PACE 3-0

Junior Jaclyn Griffin
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team played its first match at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium since September 9 this afternoon and returned home in exciting fashion after delivering a 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-20) Northeast-10 Conference victory over visiting Pace University. The Golden Knights (10-5/5-2 NE-10) have now won six of eight having concluded a seven-match road trip with today's sweep.

Junior right side hitter Jaclyn Griffin registered a match-high 12 kills for Saint Rose, while freshman outside hitter Marilyn Glamack added seven kills and 11 digs. Additionally, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Baxter and freshman middle hitter Chelsea Tyler had six kills apiece.

Freshman setter Theresa Staulo had a solid all-around performance for the Golden Knights after dishing out 26 assists and chalking up six kills, six digs and four blocks. Finally, sophomore libero Mary German recorded 23 digs to pace the defense.

Senior outside hitter Danielle Furka led a balanced attack for the Setters (11-7/3-3 NE-10) with eight kills and 15 digs. Senior right side hitter Korena Johnson wound up with seven kills and a pair of blocks, while freshman setter Shea Hansen passed out 29 assists to go with nine digs.

Saint Rose trailed only once in the first set, 13-12, but a kill by Griffin and four straight service points from senior defensive specialist Danielle Gaudio made it 17-13. The setters fought back and evened the score 24-24, but Griffin was set up by Staulo and Tyler punctuated the set with an ace for the 26-24 win.

In the second set, the Golden Knights jumped out to a 10-4 edge and Tyler again closed it out with four straight points on serve for the convincing 25-16 margin. In the third set, Saint Rose overcame a 6-1 deficit by taking advantage of 10 attack errors by Pace to seal the 25-20 triumph.

The Golden Knights get back on the road immediately when they head to Mercy College tomorrow for a 7:00 pm non-conference match in Dobbs Ferry. The Setters will look to snap a mild two-match skid when they visit Assumption in an NE-10 affair at 7:00 pm Wednesday in Worcester, MA.
