WORCESTER, MA – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team overcame an 11-day layoff with ease on the strength of a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-10) victory at Assumption College this evening. In spite of not playing since September 20, the Golden Knights (8-4/3-1 NE-10) have won their fourth match in their last five outings.
Freshman outside hitter
Marilyn Glamack paced Saint Rose offensively with 10 kills, while junior right side hitter
Jaclyn Griffin added eight kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman setter
Theresa Staulo piloted the attack by passing out 29 assists to go with four kills.
On the defensive side of the net, junior libero
Mary German led all players with 14 digs and also registered four aces.
The Greyhounds (2-8/0-4 NE-10), who remained winless throughout their first four Northeast-10 Conference matches with the loss, received four kills from freshman middle blocker Samantha Lupinski. Additionally, junior right side hitter Sarah Sullivan contributed three kills and four digs.
The Golden Knights broke an 11-11 tie in the second set thanks to consecutive aces from German that made it 13-11. Lupinski answered with a kill to get Assumption back to within one, 13-12, but Saint Rose went on a 12-5 outburst the rest of the way to take a 2-0 advantage.
In the third set, the Golden Knights raced out to a 15-1 lead behind four kills from Glamack and a pair from Griffin. Saint Rose wound up hitting .667 in the set on 14 kills with only two errors in 18 attempts.
The Golden Knights are scheduled to travel to Southern New Hampshire on Friday for an NE-10 match at 7:00 pm in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds embark on a three-match road trip on Saturday when they head to Saint Michael's for a 1:00 pm league affair.
