ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team split a doubleheader in a cross-division, Northeast-10 Conference matchup with the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's earned a 12-6 10-inning victory in the opening game of the double dip. Saint Rose forced extra innings by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but the Purple Knights quickly responded with six runs in extras.Â
The Golden Knights registered a first-inning triple play in the opening frame of game one when Nathan Tom snared a line drive to first, stepped on the bag and fired a strike to shortstop
Kenyon Motley at second base to complete the unconventional inning ender.Â
James Ward's RBI single in ninth tied things up for Saint Rose at six apiece to force the extra innings. Ward would go 3-for-4 with two RBI and runs scored in the second game.
Catcher
Ryan Deo reached base three times, drove in two runs, and scored for the Golden Knights in the opener as well.Â
Saint Rose flipped the script in game two with an offensive explosion that propelled them to a 17-6 7-inning victory. The Golden Knights put up a crooked number in five of the first six innings they came up to bat, with the top-four hitters in the Saint Rose line up all reaching base 4 or more times in the contest, while accounting for 14 of the Golden Knights' 17 runs.Â
Vince Venditti paced the Golden Knights offense, getting on base all five times he came to the plate, going 3-for-3 with two walks. He scored all five times he reached base.Â
Toms and Louie Gendron each drove in three and scored three runs in the game two win.Â
Andrew Donglewic earned his second win of the year with 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
Mike Gage held the Purple Knights hitless over the final three innings while striking out five to earn the multi-inning save.Â
Saint Rose is back at Bob Bellizzi Field Sunday for a 12:00 PM/2:00 PM double header versus the Franklin Pierce Ravens.Â
