ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team took one of two from Assumption this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field.
Mike Benedetto laced a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Golden Knights the 6-5 victory in game one, capping a 2-for-4, three RBI effort from Benedetto.
Vince Venditti and
Louis Gendron matched Benedetto with two hits apiece in the opener.
Assumption got on the board first in game one, however Venditti and
Nathan Toms each provided run-scoring singles in the third inning to go ahead 2-1.
Gendron and Benedetto worked together to increase the Saint Rose lead to 5-1 in the fifth, as Gendron singled home
James Ward before Benedetto drove in Toms and Gendron with a double to center field.
The Greyhounds put up a three-spot of their own in the sixth, then plated the game-tying run in the ninth to set the stage for the Benedetto walk-off.
Toms hit a two-run home run and Venditti smoked a grand slam as part of a six-run sixth inning for the Golden Knights in game two. Saint Rose led 7-4 going before Assumption scored five times in the ninth to steal the finale.Â
The Golden Knights next travel to face New Haven in a three-game weekend series beginning Friday in West Haven, Conn.
