MANCHESTER, NH- The College of Saint Rose women's softball team took one of two in this afternoon's doubleheader at Franklin Pierce.
Kelsey Higgins added to her Northeast-10 Conference-leading home run total when she sent a three-run blast out in the top of the first inning of game two. It was the eighth home run of the spring for Higgins, which is the second-most long balls ever hit by a Saint Rose player in a single season.
Marin Frazee also went deep in the first inning of the finale, as her two-run bomb put Saint Rose ahead 5-0.Â
The Ravens got three runs back in the second and third innings before the Golden Knights responded with a three-spot in the fourth.Â
Higgins walked with the bases loaded, Maddy Bland hit into a fielders choice to score a run, and Madison Chandler tallied an RBI single to expand the Saint Rose margin to 8-3.Â
Franklin Pierce had cut the lead down to 8-5 when Bland and Frazee each drove in RBI in the sixth.
Ellen Fuda was 3-for-5 with a team-high three runs in the finale. Higgins finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and four RBI.
Frazee and Alexandra Deeter were each 2-for-4, with Frazee scoring a run and driving in three more.Â
Bland had two RBI and Cianna Phillips scored two runs as part of the offensive explosion in the game two victory.Â
The Golden Knights were limited to just three hits in a 5-2 setback in the opening game of the day.
Phillips, Higgins, and Bland each had a hit, while Chandler knocked in both the Golden Knight runs.Â
Saint Rose was clinging to a 2-1 advantage late before the Ravens rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the win.
The Golden Knights flip around to face Saint Michael's in a Monday doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played Saturday in Colchester, VT.
