AUBURNDALE, FL- The College of Saint Rose softball team began the 2024 season with wins over Mercyhurst and Queens College in the first day of action at The Spring Games in central Florida.
The Golden Knights defeated Mercyhurst 4-2 in the opener before claiming a 5-2 win over Queens in game two.
Sophomore pitcher
Hannah Breen earned the win in the circle in game one after scattering five hits across 7.0 innings.Â
After freshman outfielder
Kelsey Higgins got the Golden Knights on the board early with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, graduate outfielder
Ciana Phillips quickly doubled the lead to 4-0 with a two-run single in the second inning.
Higgins would go deep again in the seventh inning of the finale to provide the Golden Knights some late insurance in the three-run victory against Queens. Junior catcher
Ellen Fuda matched Higgins with two hits, while Phillips, freshman infielder
Ella Leduc, and junior outfielder
Nayana DeAmelia each logged one RBI in the game two win.
The Golden Knights return tomorrow for day two of The Spring Games with afternoon matchups versus Winona State and California (PA).
