WEST HAVEN, Conn- The College of Saint Rose softball team took both contests of today's Northeast-10 Conference series at New Haven. The Golden Knights claimed game one 6-3 before closing out the sweep with a 8-4 win in the day's second game.
Kelsey Higgins and
Ella Leduc each produced 3-for-4 efforts at the plate in the game one win. Both Higgins and Leduc drove in a run, while Higgins led the Golden Knights with two runs scored.
Ciana Phillips also had two hits and an RBI in the opener.
After an
Alexcia Koonz double plated
Madison Chandler in the first inning, the host Chargers would respond with solo runs in the second, third, and fourth frames to edge ahead 3-1 going into the fifth.
Trailing by two, the Golden Knights rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth, followed by two more runs in the sixth to take the lead the good.
Maddy Bland singled home
Ellen Fuda, Leduc knocked in Higgins, and Bland stole home to account for the Saint Rose runs in the fifth. Phillips laced an RBI double that scored
Mattison Muller before Higgins smoked a solo home run in the sixth.
Higgins continued her hot day at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance in game two.
Nayana DeAmelia had multiple hits as well, as she went 2-for-4.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead early in game two, but the Golden Knights benefited from New Haven fielding miscues in the second and third innings to propel ahead 3-1.
Higgins extended the advantage to 4-1 with a RBI single that brought in
Katelyn Baker in the fourth.
New Haven scored twice in the fifth to tie the action at 6-6, however Saint Rose manufactured four runs in the top the seventh to secure the sweep.
The Golden Knights received two runs from Higgins again in game two, while Fuda, DeAmelia, Leduc,
Alexandra Deeter, and
Marin Frazee also touched home for one run apiece. Leduc recorded an RBI in the big seventh inning as well.
Saint Rose is slated to next face D'Youville in the Golden Knights' home-opening doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch of the series is set for 12:00 pm at Cathy Haker Field.
