ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose baseball started off their home schedule with an exciting double header sweep of the American International College Yellowjackets, with both wins coming in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth.
Game one of the afternoon ended with Saint Rose first baseman Nathan Toms driving a game winning single to bring home center fielder Vince Venditti from second to give Saint Rose a 4-3 victory. Venditti led off the 9th with a double down the third baseline. Venditti started both games in center and provided 4 hits (2 doubles), 4 runs scored, 2 RBI at the plate over the two games.
The second game was equally thrilling, this time ending with Golden Knights freshman catcher AJ Fasolino lacing a single through the right side to drive in third baseman Jack Griffin to secure the 10-9 win. Griffin went 2-4 in game 2 with 2 runs scored and RBI while also reaching on a hit by pitch.
Chase Tucker was on the mound for Saint Rose in the opener, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless through 6 innings, and finished the day with a final line of 6.2 innings pitched, 2ER, 6 hits and 3 strikeouts. Avery Mosseau earned the win in relief for Saint Rose.
Randel Alejo took the mound for the Golden Knights in the back end of the double header, holding AIC to just 1 run while striking out 3.
Saint Rose jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second game with Natham Toms starting things off with a first inning double to the wall to bring home right fielder James Ward along with Venditti once again.
Freshman second baseman Ethan Farina went 2-3 in game 2 with an RBI and run scored and also reached on a walk.
Golden Knights designated hitter Louis Gendron finished the double dip with 5 hits between the two games.
Saint Rose moved to above .500 overall on the season (8-7) and begin Northeast-10 play with a 2-0 recond.
These two teams will wrap up the 3 game set tomorrow in Springfield, MA at American Internationals home diamond, Richard F. Bedard Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00PM.
