SMITH'S BIG SECOND HALF HELPS SAINT ROSE PULL AWAY FROM POST

ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rise men's lacrosse team pulled away from Post University this afternoon to take a 17-14 non-conference victory at Sullivan Field.

Graduate attack Cam Smith scored six times to guide Saint Rose to the win. Jack Rice netted three goals and Noah Gibson struck twice to round out multi-goal efforts for the pair of the sophomores. Gibson also added a team-best three assists.

The action was tight throughout much of a first half that saw the two sides exchange the lead three times and tie on three other occasions.

Post seemed ready to take the momentum into the locker room, as the Eagles were ahead by two in the closing moments of the second quarter. However, Smith and Rice would each find the back of the net within the final nine seconds of the half to draw the two squads level at 7-7 after 30 minutes.

Post struck first in the third stanza to briefly jump back ahead, but the Golden Knights would respond with six straight scores to put the game away. Smith logged five of his six scores after halftime to lock down the win.

Eddie Baker (two goals, one assist), Jackson Spikereit (one goal, one assist) and Alex Johanson (one goal, two assists) each registered multiple points, while Aiden Blouin and Mike Mrzyglod recorded solo goals.

Eoghan Sweeney finished 24-for-34 at the face-off spot, and his game-high 17 ground balls also helped the Golden Knights own a 47-24 advantage over Post in loose ball pickups.

The Golden Knights close out their three-game home stand at Sullivan Field by welcoming Caldwell for a 12:00 pm meeting on Saturday afternoon.
