SAINT ROSE STARTS NEW SEASON WITH NORTH CAROLINA TRIP

CARY, NC- The College of Saint Rose began their 2024 season with a pair of weekend doubleheaders in Cary, N.C. The Golden Knights defeated the Mercy Mavericks 8-7 in 10 innings in their season opener, the first of two victories over Mercy across the weekend. The Golden Knights dropped both contests to Goldey-Beacom. 

Senior Thomas Mark earned the opening win for the Golden Knights, providing 4.0 scoreless innings of relief while allowing just one baserunner. Junior Marcus Bothelo spun a perfect 10th inning to earn the save for Saint Rose. 

Nathan Toms launched an 8th inning solo homerun and Mike Bennedetto tied the game with a three-run shot in the 9th to get Saint Rose to extra innings in their opener. 

James Ward capped off the five-run comeback for the Golden Knights with a 10th inning game winning single, driving in sophomore Kenyon Motley

Vince Venditti hit a solo homerun the Golden Knights 18-11 loss to Goldey-Beacom in Game two of Saturdays double-dip. Venditti tallied three hits, two RBI, two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base over his three starts. 

Mike Weed went six strong in his start on Sunday to earn the win in Saint Rose 15-8 victory over Mercy. Weed struck out five while giving up just three earned runs on three hits. Mike Gage earned a multi-inning save, helping the Golden Knights out of a 7th inning jam, and keeping the Mavericks scoreless over the final nine outs

Ethan Farina drove a two-run homer over the outfield fence to fuel a five-run fifth inning that extended the Golden Knights lead to 14-3. 

Toms would hit second home run of the weekend in the 7th inning to cap off the 15-run outburst by the Saint Rose offense. Toms finished the weekend with five hits, including two home runs, four RBI, five runs, and four walks. Bennedetto registered seven hits, four RBI and scored four runs as well. 

Saint Rose heads back to North Carolina on March 1st for four more games in Wilson, NC March 1-3. The Golden Knights will play a Friday doubleheader vs. Chestnut Hill and West Virginia Wesleyan. Saturday, March 2nd will feature a second matchup vs. Chestnut Hill, with Sunday, March 3rd serving as the rematch date vs. WVW.
