SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team matched the second-longest winning streak in program history with a 46-45 win tonight at American International.
Trailing by one late in the fourth quarter, junior guard
Catherine Finnerty sunk a pair of free-throws with 21 seconds remaining to help the Golden Knights claim their ninth straight victory, marking the most consecutive wins for Saint Rose since the 2000-2001 season.
Junior guard
Syrita Faraj recorded team-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds for Saint Rose in the triumph. Sophomore guard
Kaelah Carter had nine points, four boards, and two blocks, while junior forward
Maddisyn Mahoney added eight points.
Saint Rose jumped ahead quickly in its first Northeast-10 Conference matchup in four weeks, as the Golden Knights held a 16-3 lead after limiting the Yellow Jackets to 1-of-12 shooting in the first quarter.
Trailing 26-14 at the half, American International mounted its comeback by owning the first 12 points of the third frame.
After a Yellow Jacket three-pointer gave the hosts a 43-42 lead with 4:07 left in the fourth, Faraj answered with a jumper with under three minutes left to put Saint Rose back ahead.
AIC retook the lead on a basket with 2:10 remaining, setting up the winning free-throw from Finnerty in the closing minute.
Finnerty and sophomore forward
Aniya McDonald-Perry finished with six points each. McDonald-Perry would also register five rebounds and two assists.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will travel to Waltham, Mass. to challenge #6 Bentley in a 1:30 pm meeting on Saturday.
