ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose took down Southern New Hampshire 53-46 in a battle of two of the top teams in the Northeast-10 Conference this evening in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Junior forward Maddisyn Mahoney had 14 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Payton Graber provided 12 points in the win for Saint Rose.
Junior forward Catherine Finnerty tallied eight points and sophomore forward Anita McDonald-Perry finished with seven points and game-high 14 rebounds.
A slow start by the Golden Knights put Saint Rose down double-digits in the second quarter, however the Golden Knights defense clamped down in the second half to hold the Penmen to only 18 total points across the final 20 minutes.
The key moment of the night came at the start of the third period when Graber knocked down three long balls to spark an 18-6 rally over the first five minutes of the frame.
Despite its slow second-half shooting, Southern New Hampshire managed to cut the Golden Knights advantage to 49-46 with 3:49 left, however the Saint Rose defense would not allow another Penmen point from that moment forward.
Guard Ariana Timberlake finished with a game-best 23 points in the losing effort. Timberlake drilled five of the nine threes recorded by the Penmen.
Both teams will next hit the road for 1:30 pm contests on Saturday. The Golden Knights head to West Haven, Conn. to fade New Haven while SNHU travels to Assumption.
