ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose men's soccer team fought hard for 90 minutes versus #1 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce but ultimately fell 3-2 to its Northeast-10 foe. The Golden Knights had a potential game-tying goal wiped off the board on a very close offsides call in the final minutes of the match.Â
Saint Rose jumped on the Ravens early as graduate midfielder
Joao Amaral gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute with a strike that deflected off a Franklin Pierce defender to beat the keeper.Â
The Golden Knights would keep Franklin Pierce off the board for over 30 minutes, however back-to-back goals by Thomas Esperoe and Younes Addar Khanoussi in the 37th and 38th minutes would give the Ravens a 2-1 advantage.
Despite the quick goals by FPU, Saint Rose would not go into the half quietly. In the 43rd minute, graduate midfielder
Lennart Greifenberg would send a cross to the back post and find freshman back
Nikolas Karnesis, who headed the ball into the back of the net to tie things up at 2-2.
Younes Addar Khanoussi would net his second goal of the game to give the Ravens a 3-2 lead in the 62nd minute.Â
Saint Rose would fight until the end but could not find the equalizer before the final horn.Â
Golden Knight freshman goalie
Leopold Dufaut made a career high eight saves in the setback.
Saint Rose will be back at home at Sullivan Field on Tuesday at 4:00pm for another conference clash versus Saint Anselm. Franklin Pierce will put its perfect record on the line once again at Bentley on Tuesday.
