ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team outlasted Daemen for a 3-2 victory tonight at Sullivan Field.
The Golden Knights, who took the #3 ranking in this week's United Soccer Coaches Association national poll, received two scores from freshman midfielder
Brielle Zink and a goal from junior forward
Mia Klammer to improve to 4-0 on the fall.
After the visiting Wildcats struck first with 15:15 gone in the first half, Klammer and senior midfielder
Lauren Amerena paired to provide the Golden Knights with an equalizing strike off a corner kick a mere 40 seconds later.Â
With the action still level at 1-1, Zink netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 56th minute off a Golden Knights throw-in sequence. Freshman midfielder
Ella Wilson started it all with a long throw from the sideline that flicked off the head of Klammer before finding Zink.
Zink notched her second score of the game nine minutes later on a nearly-identical play, as she headed home another perfect throw-in from Wilson.
Saint Rose recorded an 18-8 advantage in shots, as well as 16-4 margin in corner kicks over the Wilcats.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will begin Northeast-10 Conference play with a trip to #14 Franklin Pierce on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm in a rematch of the 2022 NCAA East Region Final.
