ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball team was edged 4-1 and 3-2 by New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader this afternoon.
Sophomore pitcher
Isabella Milazzo struck out 12 in 6.0 innings in the circle in game one, however the Chargers were able to leave the yard twice against the right-hander, first with a solo shot by junior designated player Meg Anderson in the second inning, and again on a three-run blast by junior catcher Halle Frederick in the sixth.
Junior first basemen
Madison Chandler plated junior center fielder
Ciana Phillips with a hard single up the middle in the bottom of the first to account for the lone Golden Knights run in game one.
Chandler tallied another RBI for Saint Rose in the second game of the day as well. Chandler drove home sophomore second basemen
Alexandra Deeter with a double in the sixth inning, and later scored herself on a run-scoring groundout by Milazzo. Deeter finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the finale, with both hits coming as long doubles to left field.
Graduate student pitcher Mia Iodice punched out 11 in a complete-game performance to earn the win in the circle for the Chargers in game two. Iodice followed a 7.0 inning effort from senior starter Selena Aponte in the day's opener.
Looking forward, the Golden Knights will face Le Moyne in a Tuesday doubleheader that begins at 2:00 pm in Syracuse. New Haven is in action as well on Tuesday with a twin bill at Adelphi.
