ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball claimed the first game of this afternoon's series against Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights took the opener 1-0 before the visiting Owls closed the day with a 12-4 victory in the finale.
Sophomore pitcher
Isabella Milazzo earned the win for Saint Rose after 7.0 strong innings in the circle in game one. Milazzo struck out eight Owls while allowing only five hits in the complete game effort.
Sophomore second basemen
Alexandra Deeter was responsible for the lone run in the first game of the day, as her solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth was the only blemish on the scoreboard in the 1-0 triumph
Deeter left the yard again in the game two setback as well. Her two-run blast was the first of two homers sent out to left field by the Golden Knights in the bottom of the third inning, with freshman designated player
Hannah Smith launching a solo shot out in the frame.
The Golden Knights received an RBI double in the bottom of the first from junior first basemen
Madison Chandler to go ahead 1-0 of game two. Southern Connecticut State would respond with big rallies in the second and third innings to go ahead 6-1.
Trailing by five, the Golden Knights utilized the long-balls from Deeter and Smith to narrow the deficit to 6-4 after the bottom of the third, however six more runs from the Owls in the next two innings propelled the margin to eight
Southern Connecticut State pounded out 13 hits in the five-inning win, with eight different Owls scoring runs in the road win.
Both squads are back in action with conference doubleheaders tomorrow afternoon. Saint Rose is back home at Haker Field to host New Haven in a twin bill that starts at 2:00 pm. Southern Connecticut State heads west to meet Le Moyne for a pair.
