GOLDEN KNIGHTS GRAB ONE OF TWO IN FINAL DAY AT SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team took one of two today at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights regrouped to the take the series final after the Owls had claimed the first three contests in the four-game set.

Eight different Golden Knights scored runs in game two, with senior first basemen Jack McDonald, freshman third basemen Jack Griffin, freshman catcher Colin Casey, and senior second basemen Jared Reed crossing home plate twice each.

McDonald, Griffin, and Reed each finished with three hits, while senior designated hitter Louis Gendron logged two hits as well.  The quartet, along with sophomore left fielder James Ward, all drove in multiple runs apiece for the Golden Knights.

After SCSU scored twice in first inning, Griffin and Reed tallied their first RBI of the day as part of a three-run second inning that gave Saint Rose a 3-2 advantage. The Owls would post four more runs in the bottom of the second to re-take the lead at 6-3, however the Golden Knights would receive a solo homerun in the third and a two-run double in the sixth from McDonald to edge ahead in the middle innings.

Gendron followed the McDonald double with a single through the left side that added two more runs in the sixth, while Reed and Ward helped Saint Rose tack on two more in the top of the seventh. McGee and Ward each drove in runs in the ninth to provide the Golden Knights some insurance in the 12-7 triumph.

The opening matchup of the afternoon saw Saint Rose jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but after a run by the Owls in the third, Southern Connecticut State put up a five-spot up in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control of the seven-inning game one.

McGee finished 2-for-4 with a run, while McDonald scored twice for the Saint Rose in the opener. Ward and Griffin both registered RBI in the setback.

The Golden Knights will turn around to host Bentley tomorrow in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 pm at Bellizzi Field. SCSU returns with a home NE10 doubleheader versus Pace on Saturday.
