ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball team took one of two from Northeast-10 rival Saint Michael's this afternoon at Cathy Cummings Haker Field. Saint Rose edged the Purple Knights 3-2 in the opener before Saint Michael's claimed game two by the score of 4-2.
Junior center fielder
Ciana Phillips provided the Golden Knights the game-winning hit in the game one, as she beat out an infield single that scored both sophomores
Mattison Muller and
Ellen Fuda.
The Golden Knights had trailed Saint Michael's from the first inning on in game one after the Purple Knights posted two runs in their first trip to the plate.
Saint Rose faced an early deficit once again in game two after the Purple Knights scored again in the top in the first.
Fuda would draw the Golden Knights even on an RBI-double in the bottom of the third that plated sophomore shortstop
Abby Behrikis.Â
A run-scoring single off the bat of sophomore right field
Nayana DeAmelia would give Saint Rose a 2-1 advantage in the following frame.
Clinging to the one-run lead late, the Golden Knights would surrender a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to allow Saint Michael's to take the 4-2 victory.
Behrikis tallied two hits in the finale. Senior shortstop Sadie Pratt finished 2-for-4 with two runs for the Purple Knights.
Both squads return to action tomorrow, as Saint Rose hosts Franklin Pierce in a twin bill beginning at 5:00 pm at Haker Field. Saint Michael's head to Syracuse to face Le Moyne.
