ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team hosted Dominican University this evening at Bob Bellizzi Field. With the action tied 2-2, Saint Rose utilized a five-run fifth inning to propel ahead from the Chargers in the 10-6 non-conference win.
The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, with Saint Rose taking advantage of infield grounders by freshman catcher
Collin Casey and senior center fielder
Avery Pascucci to plate a pair of runs.
Following a two-run home run by Charger designated hitter Dominic Morabito in the top of the third, Saint Rose immediately answered with its five-spot in the bottom half of the frame to pull away.
Pascucci, freshman
Kenyon Motley, and sophomores
Nathan Toms and
James Ward each tallied RBI in the big inning for the Golden Knights. Freshman
Jack Griffin provided a run-scoring single in the next stanza to extend the advantage to 8-2.
After Dominican scored twice in both the fifth and eighth innings to tighten the margin to 8-6 late, a two-run blast by senior right fielder Tonny Socci in the bottom of the eighth gave Saint Rose some key insurance runs.
Socci, Toms, Griffin, and senior first basemen
Jack McDonald crossed home plate two times each in the win for the Golden Knights.
Saint Rose returns to Northeast-10 Conference play this weekend with a four-game series that will take place Saturday and Monday at Southern Connecticut State.
