ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball team took both meetings in today's non-conference doubleheader at the College of Staten Island. The Golden Knights held off late pushes from the Dolphins in both games off the afternoon to sweep the doubleheader by scores of 6-5 and 3-2.
Saint Rose scored three times in the top of the first of game one, with junior first basemen
Madison Chandler and sophomore second basemen
Alexandra Deeter each singling in runs to provide Saint Rose with an early lead.
Sophomore catcher
Ellen Fuda's triple brought home junior center fielder
Ciana Phillips as part of a two-run second inning for the Golden Knights. Phillips led the lineup with two runs in the matinee victory.
After sophomore shortstop
Madi Puppolo knocked an RBI-single in the sixth to move Saint Rose ahead 6-2, Staten Island would answer with three runs in their half of the frame to cut the margin to one.
Despite the Dolphins putting the potential tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh, senior pitcher
Samantha Allen was able to record the final out to help the Golden Knights start the day with a win.
Allen was in the circle to close out the tight victory in game two as well, as she earned her second save of the afternoon in the 3-2 triumph.
Saint Rose did all its scoring in top of the fourth to back up sophomore starter's
Hannah Breen 5.0-inning effort.Â
Puppolo provided the big hit the fourth-inning scoring, a triple to right center that plated Chandler and junior catcher Julia Rupinksi. Sophomore right fielder Nayanna DeAmelia drove home Puppolo as well in the frame.
The Golden Knights return to Haker Field to host Franklin Pierce in Friday afternoon's Senior Day matchup. First pitch coming at 2:00 pm, with the Golden Knights senior class set to be honored followed the conclusion of the doubleheader.
