SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose softball team shutout American International College 6-0 in game one of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader before the Yellow Jackets blanked Saint Rose 8-0 in the second game of the afternoon.
Sophomore catcher
Ellen Fuda went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while junior first basemen
Madison Chandler finished 2-for-4 in the opener. Junior center fielder
Ciana Phillips launched a solo homerun and scored three of the Golden Knights six runs.
Saint Rose jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first courtesy of a run-scoring double by Chandler and an RBI-single by freshman designated played
Maddy Bland.
After Phillips' homer in top of the third extended the lead to 3-0, the Golden Knights added two more runs in the fifth, with sophomore second basemen
Alexandra Deeter bringing home Fuda in the frame. Fuda doubled home Phillips in the seventh to close out the Saint Rose scoring in the opener.
Phillips and sophomore shortstop
Abby Behrikis were the only Golden Knights to tally hits in game two against junior righty Riley Sullivan, who took the five-inning win in the circle for the Yellow Jackets.Â
Both teams will return to action with mid-week non-conference matchups. Saint Rose travels to Staten Island for a Wednesday doubleheader that begins at 2:00 pm, while American International hosts Post on Thursday.
