TIGHT GAME TWO VICTORY GIVES SOFTBALL A SPLIT VERSUS ASSUMPTION

WORCESTER, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose softball team held on for a 3-2 victory in the finale of this afternoon's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Assumption.

Clinging to a 3-2 advantage, senior pitcher Samantha Allen entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with the potential tying and go-ahead runs on base for the Greyhounds and proceeded to strike out sophomore third basemen Mackenzie Bruggeman to secure the series split.

Sophomore catcher Ellen Fuda and freshman designated player Anna Cleary both knocked in first-inning RBI to stake the Golden Knights to a 2-0 advantage through one.

After Assumption got a run back in the fourth, Saint Rose would answer with an RBI-single in the top of the fifth by sophomore second basemen Alexandra Deeter to extend the margin to 3-1.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Breen earned the game two win behind a 6.2-inning effort. Breen struck out four and had allowed just the fifth-inning run before the Greyhounds plated another as part of their rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Junior center fielder Ciana Phillips reached base in all four plate appearances, as she finished 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

The Golden Knights rebounded to split the doubleheader after Assumption took the opener 4-0. Deeter, junior first basemen Madison Chandler, and sophomore right fielder Nayana DeAmelia each recorded a hit in game one, while sophomore pitcher Isabella Milazzo struck out 10 in the circle.

Looking forward, Saint Rose turns around to face American International for a pair beginning tomorrow at 12:00 pm. The Greyhounds return at Bentley on Wednesday.
