ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball team took one of two from visiting Post University today at Cathy Haker Field. Saint Rose recorded all its runs in a fourth-inning rally to claim the opener 6-1 before Post outlasted the Golden Knights in extra innings of game two to wrap the non-conference doubleheader.
After the Eagles opened the scoring with a solo homerun in the top of the first, Saint Rose pulled ahead for good with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.Â
Sophomore second basemen
Alexandra Deeter, sophomore left fielder
Mattison Muller, and junior center fielder
Ciana Phillips all provided run-scoring hits in the big inning. Deeter and Muller each finished with two RBI in the game one win.
Freshman Anna Clearly struck out six while scattering three hits over 6.0 innings to earn the victory in the circle for the Golden Knights.
Post opened the second game of the day with more early inning runs, as the Eagles plated a pair in the top of the first to stake 2-0 advantage.
Following a solo home run by junior second basemen
Colette Cohen that cut the deficit to 2-1, Post would respond with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to extend the margin to 6-1. Â
Sophomore
Isabella Milazzo helped the Golden Knights get run back with a pinch hit RBI single in the fifth before sophomore catcher
Ellen Fuda came off the bench as well to provide a two-run homerun that brought Saint Rose within 6-4.
With the deficit still at two runs in the bottom of the seventh, junior first basemen
Madison Chandler sent the game to extras after she raced all the way around the bases to score alongside sophomore right fielder
Nayana DeAmelia after a Chandler fly ball was misplayed the Eagles outfield.
The fun would only begin from there, as both squads would post three runs in their respective eighth inning at-bats, bringing the action to a ninth frame with the score deadlocked at 9-9.
Post put game two away with a marathon 13-run ninth inning that saw the Eagles bring 17 batters to the plate in the frame.
Phillips, Fuda, Cohen, and shortstop Abby Behirkis all tallied multiple hits in the finale, while Fuda and Behrikis each provided a team-high three RBI.
Saint Rose will jump back into Northeast-10 Conference play with a Saturday series at Assumption. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 pm in Worcester, Mass.
