SOFTBALL RECOVERS FOR 8-3 WIN OVER PITT-JOHNSTOWN IN THE AFTERNOON FINALE

LEESBURG, FL.- The College of Saint Rose softball team took one of two today at The Spring Games in Florida. While game one saw the Golden Knights fall 3-1 to Lake Erie, Saint Rose finished even on the day with a 8-3 triumph over Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the afternoon matchup.

With the Golden Knights down 1-0 in the opener, a single by freshman right fielder Olivia Urquhart in the top of the second inning plated sophomore designated player Isabella Milazzo to level the action at 1-1.

Lake Erie, however, would notch runs in the third and fifth innings, giving junior pitcher Bridget Mullholland enough of a cushion to earn the win the circle. Mullholland allowed six baserunners and one earned run in 5.0 innings of work.

Following the setback in the game one, Saint Rose would recover to take the finale over Pitt-Johnstown, with six different Golden Knights scoring runs in the winning effort.

Junior first basemen Madison Chandler went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while freshman designated player Anna Cleary drove in two runs and scored one in a 2-for-3 performance. Sophomore outfielder Nayana DeAmelia knocked in a pair of runs as well for the Golden Knights in the win.

Saint Rose jumped on the Mountain Cats early, with Chandler and Cleary providing RBI doubles in the first inning and DeAmelia and Cleary recording run-scoring hits in the third to stake the Golden Knights to a 5-0 advantage.

After two runs by Pitt-Johnstown in the fourth, Chandler and sophomore second basemen Alexandra Deeter drove home insurance runs in the bottom of fifth to provide the winning margin.

Junior center fielder Ciana Phillips and sophomore left fielder Mattison Muller would also reach base multiple times apiece, in addition to each scoring a run for Saint Rose.

The Golden Knights are set for another doubleheader tomorrow at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. Saint Rose will face Trevecca Nazarene at 12:30pm, followed by a 3:00 matchup versus Staten Island.
