WILSON, N.C.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team earned a split in today's doubleheader at historic Fleming Stadium. The Golden Knights began the day with a 5-3 setback to Glenville State before wrapping the twin bill with a 15-4 victory over Kutztown in the finale.
Six different Golden Knights recorded multiple hits in the game two win, with sophomore shortstop
Vince Venditti and senior center fielder
Ryan McGee leading the way with three apiece. Venditti also drove in a team-high four runs.
After Kutztown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Golden Knights would answer with five runs in the second, with a bases-loaded triple by Venditti aiding the rally.
Saint Rose would tally single runs in each of the fifth and six inning before blowing things open with an eight-run seventh. Venditti provided a three-run double and sophomore left fielder
James Ward smoked a three-run home run as part of the big frame.
Junior pitcher
Chase Carroll earned the game two victory after striking out nine in 7.0 innings. Following the first-inning runs by the Kutztown, Carroll would not allow a hit over the course of the next four innings.
Sophomore third basemen
Jaden Fowler finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, while senior right fielder
Tony Socci and senior designated hitter
Louis Gendron scored two runs apiece. Senior second basemen
Jared Reed, senior first basemen
Jack McDonald, and junior catcher
Michael Nazzaro each scored a run and registered an RBI as well, with Reed's production coming in the form of a solo home run.
Socci was the top bat for the Golden Knights in their first game of the day, as the outfielder blasted a solo homer as part of a two-RBI effort.
Saint Rose fell behind early in the opener after Glenville State scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior pitcher Diego Tamariz surrendered only three hits over 5.2 innings to take the win for the Pioneers.
The Golden Knights will face the same two opponents again on Sunday, beginning at 10:00 am against Kutztown and wrapping at 5:00 pm versus Glenville State.
