GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team tallied its first Northeast-10 Conference victory today with a 7-4 win over Adelphi in game two of this afternoon's series on Long Island. The Golden Knights rebounded to claim the finale by the score of 7-4 after Adelphi took the opener 11-3.
Senior center fielder Zephaniah Vaugh finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while senior right fielder
Tony Socci logged two hits in three plate appearances in the Saint Rose win. Socci also recorded two RBI and scored one run. Junior catcher
Michael Nazzaro and sophomore left fielder
James Ward tallied two hits apiece as well for the Golden Knights.
The Saint Rose bats jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game, with a five-run third inning providing the majority of the damage early. After Vaughn launched a solo homerun out to left center field to begin the frame, the Golden Knights would also receive RBI from Socci and senior first basemen
Jack McDonald as part of the big rally.
Sophomore third basemen
Jaden Fowler extended the Saint Rose advantage to 6-0 in the top of the fourth with a double to right center that plated Vaughn. Ward would also bring home McDonald with an RBI-single in the seventh.
Socci provided the Golden Knights their only scoring in the game one setback, as his three-run blast out to left center in top of the sixth accounted for the only Saint Rose runs in the first game of the day.
Adelphi right fielder Tim Feliz went 4-for-4 and starting pitching John Rizzo struck out to 10 in a 9.0 inning complete-game effort to lead the Panthers to matinee victory.
The two squads are slated to complete the weekend series with another doubleheader on Sunday at Adelphi.
