ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose softball team was shut out twice today by Bentley in the Golden Knights home-opening doubleheader at Cathy Haker Field. The Falcons took game one 8-0 before closing the afternoon with a 2-0 triumph in the finale.
Senior pitcher
Samantha Allen provided Saint Rose 4.0 innings of solid relief in the opener, as she limited the Bentley lineup to four hits and one run after entering in the second inning with the Golden Knights trailing 6-0.Â
Falcon right-hander Peyton Doiron struck out nine to lead Bentley to the five-inning win.Â
In the second game of the day, left fielder Jordan Krause blasted a two-run homerun out to left field to help Bentley build an early advantage once again.Â
The Falcons would continue to threaten with runners in scoring position throughout many of the middle innigns, however Saint Rose sophomore pitcher
Isabella Milazzo navigated through 5.2 innings with the Krause long ball marking the lone blemish on her final line.
With the deficit still at two entering the final inning, the Golden Knights mounted a final effort that nearly tied the game, but a running catch by Bentley right fielder Kylee Amato on a line drive by Milazzo with the tying run on second base marked the final out as the Falcons secured the sweep.
Looking forward, Saint Rose will be back in action next Saturday at Southern New Hampshire, with a 12:00 pm start time set for afternoon doubleheader. Bentley turns around to face Le Moyne in Syracuse tomorrow, making up a postponed twin bill that was scheduled for Friday.
