HOPKINTON, Mass.- The College of Saint Rose began a two-day, four-game series versus Saint Anselm this afternoon, with Hopkinton High School serving as the host for the pair of non-conference doubleheaders. The Golden Knights came out victorious in the weekend's first two contests today, as Saint Rose claimed wins over the Hawks by scores of 8-1 and 9-4.
Leading 1-0 after senior right fielder
Tony Socci plated senior first basemen
Jack McDonald with a two-out triple in the first inning, the Golden Knights would explode for six more runs in the top of the second, with McDonald and senior second basemen
Jared Reed each providing three-run home runs in the frame.
Reed finished 3-for-3 and reached base in all four plate appearances in the opener, joining McDonald, Socci, and sophomore shortstop
Vince Venditti as Golden Knights to tally multiple hits in the game one win. Sophomore right hander
Chase Tucker scattered five hits across 7.0 innings to earn the victory on the mound.
Another hot start in the second game of the afternoon put the Golden Knights ahead 5-0 after the first two innings.Â
After Venditti started the scoring by driving home senior center fielder
Ryan McGee with a single in the top of the first, Saint Rose would tack on four more in the second inning behind RBI from McGee, Venditti, and McDonald.
McGee was a catalyst at the top of the Golden Knights lineup in game two, as the outfielder went 2-for-2 with a walk. McGee, Reed, and sophomore catcher
Michael Nazzaro each crossed home plate twice for Saint Rose, while freshman third basemen
Jack Griffin knocked in a pair of RBI to help the Golden Knights close out the Saturday sweep.
Saint Rose and the Hawks will face off in another doubleheader tomorrow in Hopkinton, with first pitch slated for 12:00 pm.
