BASEBALL EARNS FIRST WIN OF THE 2023 SEASON AT BLOOMFIELD

NEWARK, N.J.- The College of Saint Rose baseball team earned its first victory of the season with a 10-8 triumph today at Bloomfield. The Golden Knights registered 15 hits and had seven different players tally at least one run in the win.

Sophomore shortstop Vince Venditti crossed home plate three times to cap a 2-for-5 day in the win for the Golden Knights. Freshman third basemen Jaden Fowler had a strong day as well, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.

The Saint Rose lineup was hot from the start, as the first four Golden Knights all reached and scored before the Bears were able to record an out in the top of the first. Venditti and sophomore left fielder James Ward would each record two-run homers in first-inning rally to give Saint Rose the early cushion
.
Bloomfield would steadily chip away at its deficit following the early offensive explosion however, as the Bears managed to cut the Golden Knight advantage down to 7-6 at the close of the fifth inning.

With Saint Rose still leading by one, Fowler would send a two-run shot out to right field to provide the Golden Knights some insurance in the top of the seventh. Saint Rose would tack on another run in the eighth on an run-scoring groundout by Ward, who knocked in three RBI on the afternoon.

After junior starter Tom Cattaneo struck out six for Saint Rose in 4.0 innings, the Golden Knights relief unit of seniors Brian Wojichowski, Pryce Wasula, Greg Allard, and freshman Matthew Tiberia combined to surrender just two earned runs over the final five innings to close out the win.

Senior catcher Elvis Lopez drove in two runs and scored three times for the Bears. Sophomore third basemen Justin Rivera and senior second basement Angel Murray tallied two RBI apiece as well. Bloomfield had the tying and go-ahead runs on base before Tiberia secured the final out for the Golden Knights in the bottom of the ninth.

Looking forward, Saint Rose will next head south for the Wilson Tobs Tournmament, where the Golden Knights will play four contests between March 3-5 at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C.
