GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER TWO HEARTBREAKING DEFEATS AGAINST RV EAST STROUDSBURG

STROUDSBURG, PA- The College of Saint Rose dropped both contests in this afternoon's doubleheader at East Stroudsburg. The Warriors claimed a 4-3 walk-off victory in the first game of the day, then held off a late rally by the Golden Knights to earn a 5-4 triumph in game two.

With East Stroudsburg trailing 3-2 in the final frame of the seven-inning matinee, a one-out two-run single by infielder Victor Cruz would provide the Warriors the dramatic victory in the opener.

In the half inning prior, the Golden Knights had received a clutch knock from sophomore infielder Vince Venditti, who broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the frame.

Junior pitcher Chase Carroll pitched well for Saint Rose, as the right-hander struck out nine batters in 4.2 innings of work. Carroll, who retired six Warriors in a row by strikeout at one point, left the game after the Warriors tied things up at 2-2 in the fifth.

Senior outfielder Ryan McGee scored two runs, while senior first basemen Jack McDonald tallied a pair of RBI for the Saint Rose in game one.

In the nine-inning finale, East Stroudsburg recorded a four-run sixth inning to jump ahead 5-1. Despite tallying just two hits across the first eight innings, Saint Rose would fight down to the last at-bat once again, as the Golden Knights strung together three runs on four hits and had the tying run on base as the ESU registered the final out in the 5-4 win.

Sophomore outfielder James Ward, freshman outfielder Sean Butkowski, and sophomore designated hitter Nathan Toms would each provide base-scoring hits in the final-inning rally for Saint Rose. Ward was also responsible for the Golden Knights first score, an RBI groundout that brought home Venditti.

Brent Francisco allowed three baserunners in 6.0 innings to earn the win on the mound while Matt Ervolina went 3-for-4 with a run for the Warriors in the series finale. East Stroudsburg was recognized as having received votes in the most recent NCBWA national poll.

The Golden Knights will look to rebound against Bloomfield on Friday afternoon, with first pitch set for 12:00 pm in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
