BUFFALO, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose claimed a 67-53 victory tonight at D'Youville. The Golden Knights defense locked down late, as Saint Rose limited the host Saints to only six made field goals in second half to close out the non-conference win.
Four different Golden Knights logged double-digit scoring efforts, with junior guard
Tristian Jeffries leading the way with 15 points.Â
Freshman guard
Trey Boyd III tallied 14 points and topped the Golden Knights with eight rebounds. Boyd hit 2-from-2 from deep as part of an efficient 3-of-5 shooting performance.Â
Junior forwards
Nuha Sagnia and
Ata Turgut had 11 points apiece. Sagnia recorded six rebounds and three blocks, while Turgut pulled down five boards.
After the two squads were tied at 45-45 with 9:52 remaining, Saint Rose scored 23 of the final 31 points to secure the 14-point triumph.
Saint Rose held a major advantage at the free-throw line, as the Golden Knights converted 24-of-27 (88.9 percent), compared to the 50 percent (10-of-20) shooting from the stripe from D'Youville.
Jeffries and the freshman guard duo of
Christian Pierre-Louis and
Dante Weise registered three steals each to key the defensive efforts. Weise had three assists as well.
The Golden Knights will head home to welcome Queens to Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium for a 3:30 meeting on Sunday.
