SCHENECTADY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose swimming and diving teams opened the 2023-34 season with a pair of dual meets at Alumni Pool at Union College this weekend. The Golden Knight men's and women's would each split the day, as both squads earned respective victories over Roberts Wesleyan while being closely outscored by the host Garnet Hornets.
Junior
James Henriques lead the Saint Rose men with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (21.55 seconds) and a runner-up result in the 100-yard butterfly (54.66).
Freshman
Delroy Tyrrell claimed points with a first and third place finish for the Golden Knights. Tyrell took the 100-yard backstroke (54.33) before rounding out the podium in the 200 freestyle (1:50.93).
Junior
Nathan Greene and senior
Kaleb Hotaling also earned a pair of second place results on the men's side. Greene touched second in both the 500 free (5:19.92) and 1000 free (11:10.47), while Hotaling was runner-up in the 100 free (51.30) and the 200 individual medley (2:05.10).
Henriques and Tyrell would team with senior
Aldemar Alikavazovic and junior
Fabrizio Infante to finish first in the 200 medley relay (1:37.17). Infante also finished second in the both the 50 free (21.85) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.97) in his Golden Knights debut.Â
Greene, Hotaling, and juniors
Jack Humphrey and
Eduardo Sarmiento also worked together to earn third in the 200 free relay (1:36.40).
The freshmen pair of
Natalie Herl and
Chinyere Mgbemena each won multiple individual events to highlight the women's action. Herl was first in the 500 free (5:44.67) and 1000 free (11:42.56), while Mgbemena won the 50 free (26.83) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.91).
Junior
Mia Stroub also tallied a victory and two second place finishes for Saint Rose. She touched first in the 100 fly (1:03.86) in addition to taking second in the 100 back (1:04.75) and 200 IM (2:24.06).
Junior
Nickolette Nesci was runner-up in both the 100 free (58.29) and 200 free (2:09.54), while the trio of
Abby Carroll (100 back-1:06.91, 200 free-2:11.26),
Gabbie Lupe (100 free-58.66), and
Abigail Smith (1000 free-12:21.59) all recorded respective third place finishes.

Maeve McDermott won the women's 200 medley relay (1:58.96), while Smith, Nesci, Mgbemena, and junior Sophia Marinucci finished third in the 200 free relay (1:51.41).
Saint Rose is back in action on Saturday in the Hartford College Relays in Oneonta.
