ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose survived a late rally from visiting Saint Michael's to take tonight's Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. After the Purple Knights cut the deficit to just two points with under a minute remaining in the second half, a clutch floater off the glass by freshman guard
Kaelah Carter allowed Saint Rose to pull away for the 50-42 victory.
Senior forward
Makaela Johnson led the Golden Knights with an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Carter tallied seven points and four boards. Sophomore
Ryley Blasetti added eight points and six rebounds as well. For Johnson, her performance pushed her double-digit scoring streak to nine straight games.
Strong Saint Rose defense combined with sluggish shooting by Saint Michael's allowed the Golden Knights to build an advantage that reached 15 points in the first half. The Saint Rose lead safely remained in double-digits until the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, however the Purple Knights would score 10 straight points to cut the margin to 44-42 with 1:05 left.Â
The Golden Knights would respond to the late Saint Michael's push by tallying the final six points of the contest, with insurance coming in the form of the late basket from Carter, as well as free throws from Johnson and Blasetti.
Guards Paige Slaven and Emma MacDonough topped the Purple Knights with 12 points apiece in the defeat.
Next up, the Golden Knights stay home to host Le Moyne at 1:30 pm on Saturday, while Saint Michael's heads to American International for a Saturday afternoon contest with the Yellow Jackets.
