ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose remained unbeaten with today's 1-0 win versus Jefferson University in what was a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament East Region Semifinal in which the Golden Knights prevailed on penalty kicks.
Â
Senior forward
Kaelyn Britt provided the game's lone goal a minute after she stepped off the bench by knocking in a cross off the left flank from sophomore forward
Mia Klammer.
Â
Meanwhile, freshman keeper
Pia Bozic recorded three saves as did Jefferson sophomore Liv Riddell.
Â
This was not as close as last year's postseason encounter despite the one-goal margin. The Golden Knights (3-0), ranked #2 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Poll, manufactured a 20-4 shot advantage, including a 15-1 differential throughout a dominating first half. The Rams (1-2) generated more offense in the second half that led to five corners throughout that span, but Saint Rose displayed its resiliency.
Â
"This was a great team effort and solid win against a quality opponent. Mia had a great throw in that deflected off the head of
Lauren Amerena, which thus probably should have counted. We need to continue to work at finding the back of the net. Britt had a nice header goal and Pia stepped up with some crucial saves and our defensive unit preserved the shutout which was important," said Head Coach
Laurie Darling Gutheil.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose has a quick turnaround with Monday's 2:00 pm meeting at Caldwell University in New Jersey. Jefferson visits Pace University in Pleasantville on Wednesday.
Notes: Senior midfielder
Caylee Boorse was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll on Monday…The Golden Knights have now opened up 3-0 for the third straight year…Six different players each have one goal.
