ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose scored once in each half to hand Molloy its first setback of the year with today's 2-0 triumph at The Plumeri Sports Complex.
The Lions (1-1-2), who are the preseason favorite in the East Coast Conference, outshot the Golden Knights 18-15, but Saint Rose (2-1-0) took advantage of its opportunities.
Junior back
Nick Koenig provided the game-winner at the 28:59 mark and junior midfielder
Josh Elliott added an insurance tally with 81:07 expired. Senior
Ryan Henning made a pair of saves in each half to chalk up his seventh career clean sheet. Molloy graduate student Nick Conklu made all three of his saves in the second half.
Sophomore midfielder
Simon Schouby put Saint Rose ahead after the Lions had begun to generate some momentum. Schouby slipped a pass on the right flank back to Koenig who delivered his drive into the top-left corner.
Junior forward
Hilmar Halldorsson set up the insurance marker when he touched a feed to Elliott who buried his attempt from about 12-yards out inside the far left post.
Elliott nearly made it 3-0 two minutes later when he lined an attempt that rattled the crossbar and bounced just in front of the goal line.
It would have proved perfunctory at any rate as the outcome was all but decided at that point.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights travel to New Jersey Wednesday to face Bloomfield at 7:00 pm. The Lions host Felician on Tuesday, also at 7:00 pm.
Notes: Halldorsson was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll Monday…He paces the squad with two goals on the year…Five different players have accounted for the team's six goals thus far.
