SAINT ROSE FORGES 3-3 DRAW AT NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 3-0, second half deficit by scoring three times in the final 30 minutes to forge a 3-3 draw at Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven tonight.

Senior midfielder Andrew Lule got the Golden Knights (4-3-2/1-2-2 NE10) on the board before junior midfielder Josh Elliott and junior forward Hilmar Halldorsson converted penalty kicks. The Chargers also converted a PK in a game that was marred by nine cards.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tomas Rozman recorded two saves in each period for Saint Rose, which entered the game coming off a pair of one-goal setbacks.

Overall, the Chargers (0-5-4/0-2-3 NE10) manufactured a 14-12 shot advantage although the shots-on-goal were equal at seven apiece.

New Haven initially appeared well on its way to its first victory of the season. The Chargers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Adam Lindstrom converted the first of the game's three PKs with 16:34 elapsed.

New Haven then added two more strikes in the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Junior midfielder Devon Polletta converted a pass from sophomore midfielder Chris Chyzowych at the 54:50 mark and Chyzowych made it 3-0 himself less than two minutes later when he drove a low shot inside the right post.

However, Lule got Saint Rose on the board at the 60:37 mark and Elliott converted a PK 91 seconds later to make it a one-goal affair. Halldorrson made the Chargers pay for another egregious foul in the area at the 87:26 mark that leveled the game for the first time since the opening kickoff.

It nearly didn't end that way.

The Golden Knights came close to tying it a minute prior to Halldorsson's strike when Elliott collected a through ball at the top of the area and lined a shot to the far side that forced New Haven freshman keeper Ryan Lunn to make a diving save to his right.

Meanwhile, the Chargers developed a final threat as time expired when freshman forward Derek Meza one-timed a feed off the right flank that Rozman put aside as it headed towards the left corner.

Looking ahead, both squads have home conference dates Saturday. Saint Rose hosts American International at 4:30 pm, while New Haven takes on Southern New Hampshire at 4:00 pm.
Notes: Lule has established a school record with 75 games played...Halldorsson is tied for sixth among the league leaders with five goals…Nine different players have scored at least one goal this year…Elliott was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll Monday.
