SAINT ROSE BOUNCES BACK FROM EARLY DEFICIT TO DEFEAT NYACK 4-2

SECACUS, N.J. - The College of Saint Rose rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit to upend host Nyack College 4-2 today at Laurel Hill Park.

The Golden Knights, ranked #2 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Poll, controlled play throughout the afternoon while 31 different student-athletes saw action. Saint Rose (2-0) manufactured a 19-7 shot advantage, including a 9-4 differential in threats-on-target, and scored all four of its goals in the first half.

Four individuals figured in the scoring for the Golden Knights, including junior midfielder Lauren Amerena who set up two of the strikes. Senior midfielder Janina Mueller, junior back Sanna Rein, and sophomore forward Mia Klammer all found the back of the net, while a trio of keepers in freshmen Pia Bozic and Peyton DeRouen, and senior Taylor Gray registered a pair of saves collectively.

Sophomore midfielder Lara Noe and graduate student back Maider Ruiz De Erenchun accounted for the two Warriors (0-2) strikes.

"This was a good win on the road with a lot of players contributing. Janina had a spectacular goal. Lauren's service was excellent with Rein converting a great header goal, while Mia tucked her opportunity into the far post side netting. We certainly will be working to continue to connect more this week," said Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil.

Saint Rose was briefly forced to play from behind as Ruiz De Erenchun put Nyack ahead 1-0 with a mere 2:05 elapsed. However, the Golden Knights answered in decisive fashion by scoring three times within a 16-minutes span.

An own goal deadlocked the contest 1-1, before Mueller struck unassisted with 14:00 gone by. Rein finished a feed from Amerena for the game-winner with 22:40 expired and Klammer added a fourth off an Amerena pass 12 minutes later to make it 4-1 Golden Knights at intermission.

Noe converted a penalty kick midway through the second period to account for the final score.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to play its home opener Saturday versus Jefferson University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm in a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship Tournament East Regional Semifinal in which the Golden Knights prevailed on penalty kicks. The match will also mark the first half of a doubleheader at The Plumeri Sports Complex. The Saint Rose men's team will take on Molloy at 4:30 pm. Meanwhile, Nyack will host D'Youville on Saturday at noon.
Notes: Senior midfielder Caylee Boorse was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll on Monday…Five different players have scored one goal this season…The Golden Knights are now 8-0 all-time versus Nyack, with the series dating back to 2005.
